Forest resource inventory using GIS and presentation of forest areas in map - GeoSpatial Technologies has become a very powerful tool over the years which should be employed not only to produce maps. I believe accurate inventory is the basis for any effective management policies. However, if you could add attribute information (e.g. stakeholders
info, flora and fauna, degradation of bio-diversity, environmental elements, soils, and so on) associated with these maps which can be modeled to perform lots of analysis. Then, these outputs could be used to develop spatially explicit simulation model to investigate 'what-if' scenarios to drive effective management strategies.

Some of the priority research in the area of GIS and Remote Sensing could be used to
- assessment of wildlife habitat in forest and non-forest areas and developing conservation approach,
- assessment of carbon stock in different forest land and potential for carbon trading,
- develop integrated watershed management system for different river systems,
- investigate water and air pollutions,
- develop online GIS portal to disseminate information related to forestry and environment to educate our citizens and future generation,
- develop model to study our adaptability against climate change, etc.

Here is my another concern is that before identifying research priority areas, we need to have passed through an event like workshop where stakolders should be invited and their feedback should have taken into considerations. I hope and believe that nation can be more benefitted, investing research fund and resources in the thematic areas which is of top priority out of many as listed above.

Dear mshossain and all,

I think you have mentioned very important concepts like modeling, GIS and Remote Sensing but I think they are so important and broad that it could be create a new discussion group. Because it is important for forest and fisheries but also in general for the different biodiveristy aspects.

Best regards,
Ibon
